To start the McCulloch M51-501CMDW lawn mower, ensure the fuel tank is filled, the spark plug is connected, and the oil level is adequate. Pull the safety lever towards the handle and then pull the starter cord with a swift, steady motion.
If the mower won't start, check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is connected and in good condition, and verify the air filter is clean. Also, inspect the carburetor for any clogs or issues.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, and then every 25 hours of operation or at least once per mowing season. Use SAE 30 oil for optimal performance.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol to prevent engine damage.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on each wheel. Move the lever to the desired position to raise or lower the mowing deck. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
Before storing the mower, clean the deck to remove grass clippings, change the oil, drain the fuel tank, and disconnect the spark plug. Store the mower in a dry, sheltered area.
To replace the spark plug, disconnect the spark plug wire, use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug, and install a new one. Ensure the new spark plug is gapped correctly and securely tightened.
Excessive vibration can be caused by a damaged or unbalanced blade. Inspect the blade for damage or wear and replace if necessary. Tighten any loose parts and ensure the blade is properly balanced.
To clean the air filter, remove the filter cover, take out the filter, and wash it with warm soapy water. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling. Replace the filter if it is damaged or excessively dirty.
If the mower is not cutting evenly, check for a dull or damaged blade. Sharpen or replace the blade as needed. Also, ensure the wheels are set at the same height and that the mower deck is not clogged with debris.
