To start the McCulloch M51-170 WRPX, ensure the mower is on a flat surface. Check that the fuel tank is filled and the oil level is adequate. Engage the safety lever and pull the starter cord briskly.
If the mower doesn't start, check the fuel level and ensure fresh fuel is used. Inspect the spark plug for damage or wear and clean or replace it if necessary. Also, ensure the air filter is clean and unobstructed.
Sharpen the mower blades at least once per mowing season or after every 25 hours of use to maintain cutting efficiency and a healthy lawn.
At the end of the season, clean the mower thoroughly, drain the fuel tank, change the oil, and store it in a dry place. Check all nuts and bolts for tightness and inspect for any wear or damage.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever near the wheels. Move the lever to the desired position, ensuring all wheels are set to the same level for an even cut.
Use SAE 30 motor oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for colder temperatures to ensure optimal engine performance.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an unbalanced blade or debris caught in the mower deck. Check and clean the deck, and ensure the blade is properly balanced and securely attached.
To replace the spark plug, disconnect the spark plug wire and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Install the new plug by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten with the wrench. Reattach the spark plug wire.
It is recommended to use clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. While up to 10% ethanol is acceptable, avoid higher ethanol blends to prevent engine damage.
If the self-propelled feature stops working, check the drive cable for tension and ensure it is not damaged. Inspect the drive belt for wear or breakage and replace if necessary.
