To start the mower, ensure the fuel valve is open, set the throttle to the start position, and pull the starter cord briskly.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid gasoline with more than 10% ethanol.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use and then every 50 hours or once a season.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is connected, and verify that the air filter is clean. Also, make sure the safety handle is engaged.
Turn off the mower and disconnect the spark plug. Use a garden hose to spray under the deck, removing any grass clippings and debris.
Drain the fuel tank, change the oil, clean the mower, and store it in a dry place. Consider removing the battery if applicable.
Use the height adjustment lever located on the wheels to set the desired cutting height. Ensure all wheels are set to the same level.
Check for a bent or unbalanced blade, and ensure all fasteners are tight. Inspect the engine mounting bolts and the cutting deck for damage.
Disconnect the spark plug wire, remove the old spark plug with a wrench, and install a new plug, ensuring it's properly gapped. Reattach the spark plug wire.
Routinely check the oil level, clean the air filter, sharpen the blade, and inspect the mower for loose parts. Follow the maintenance schedule in the user manual.
