To start the McCulloch M46–500CD, ensure the fuel tank is filled, the spark plug is connected, and the oil level is adequate. Pull the safety lever towards the handle and then pull the starter rope briskly.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol as it may damage the engine.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, then every 25 hours or at the start of each mowing season. Use SAE 30 oil for optimal performance.
Check the fuel tank for gas, ensure the spark plug is not fouled, and inspect the air filter for clogs. Make sure the mower is on a flat surface and the safety lever is engaged while starting.
Check if the blade is sharp and properly balanced. Inspect the wheels for proper adjustment and ensure the mower deck is clean and free of debris.
Always disconnect the spark plug before cleaning. Use a brush or cloth to remove grass clippings and debris from the deck. Do not use water to clean the mower as it can cause rust and damage the engine.
Locate the cutting height adjustment levers on each wheel. Adjust all four levers to the desired height setting, ensuring they are set evenly for a uniform cut.
Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer, change the oil, clean or replace the air filter, sharpen the blade, and store the mower in a dry, sheltered area.
Disconnect the spark plug, tilt the mower on its side, and use a wrench to remove the blade bolt. Replace it with a new blade, ensuring the cutting edge is facing the correct direction, then retighten the bolt securely.
Check the drive belt for wear or damage and ensure it's properly connected. Inspect the wheels and drive cable for any obstructions or breaks. Adjust or replace components as necessary.
