To start the McCulloch M46–500 C, ensure the fuel tank is filled, the oil is at the correct level, the spark plug is connected, and the throttle is set to the 'start' position. Pull the starter cord firmly until the engine starts.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 40°F (4°C) and SAE 5W-30 for temperatures below 40°F (4°C) for optimal performance of the McCulloch M46–500 C.
Sharpen the mower blade at least once a season or after 25 hours of use. If you notice uneven cutting or torn grass, it may be time to sharpen the blade sooner.
If the mower won't start, check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is clean and connected, and verify that the air filter is not clogged. Additionally, make sure the safety lever is engaged.
To clean the air filter, remove the cover, take out the filter, and wash it in warm soapy water. Rinse and let it dry completely before reinstalling. Replace it if it's damaged or excessively dirty.
The correct spark plug gap for the McCulloch M46–500 C is 0.7-0.8 mm. Ensure the gap is set correctly to maintain optimal engine performance.
To improve cutting performance, ensure the blade is sharp and balanced, the deck is clean of debris, and the grass is dry when mowing. Adjust cutting height to avoid scalping the lawn.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an unbalanced blade, loose parts, or debris caught in the blade. Check and tighten all bolts, balance the blade, and clear any obstructions.
For off-season storage, empty the fuel tank, clean the mower thoroughly, and store it in a dry, sheltered place. Disconnect the spark plug to prevent accidental starting.
Adjust the cutting height by using the height adjustment lever located near the wheels. Ensure all wheels are set at the same height for an even cut.
