To start the McCulloch M40–450 CDP Lawn Mower, ensure the fuel tank is filled, the oil level is adequate, and the spark plug is connected. Prime the engine by pressing the primer bulb 3-5 times, pull the start cord firmly, and engage the throttle lever.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87. Avoid using ethanol blends higher than 10%.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, and then every 25 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season.
Use SAE 30 oil for general use, or SAE 10W-30 for varying temperature ranges.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is clean and connected, inspect the air filter for blockage, and verify that the primer bulb is functioning.
Disconnect the spark plug, tilt the mower to the side, and use a hose to remove grass clippings. Scrape off any stubborn debris with a brush or plastic scraper.
Locate the height adjustment lever on each wheel. Move the lever to the desired position to achieve the preferred cutting height.
Stop the engine immediately. Check for oil leaks or overfilling, ensure the air filter is clean, and inspect for any blockages in the exhaust.
Remove the spark plug boot, use a spark plug wrench to unscrew the old plug, and replace it with a new one. Ensure the gap is set to the manufacturer’s specification before installation.
Regularly inspect the blade for nicks and dullness. Sharpen the blade every 25 hours of use or as needed, and replace it if it is damaged or worn beyond repair.
