To start the McCulloch M1638, ensure the fuel tank is filled, set the throttle to 'fast', prime the engine if necessary, and pull the starter cord firmly.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 40°F (4°C) and SAE 10W-30 for varying temperature ranges. Always check the manufacturer's manual for confirmation.
Blades should be sharpened at least once per mowing season or whenever they appear dull to ensure optimal cutting performance.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is connected properly, verify that the air filter is clean, and confirm that the engine is primed correctly.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the filter, and clean it with soapy water or replace it if it's damaged. Ensure it is completely dry before reinstalling.
The ideal mowing height is between 2.5 to 4 inches, depending on the grass type and lawn conditions. Adjust the wheels to achieve the desired height.
Disconnect the spark plug wire, remove the old spark plug with a spark plug socket, and install the new plug. Ensure the plug is properly gapped and tightened securely.
Excessive vibration could be due to unbalanced blades, loose parts, or engine issues. Inspect the blades and bolts, and tighten or replace them as needed.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, sharpening blades, and inspecting cables and belts for wear.
Ensure the mower deck is level, check that the blade is sharp and not bent, and verify that all wheels are adjusted to the same height.
