To start the McCulloch M12597RB, ensure the fuel tank is filled and the oil level is adequate. Set the throttle to the 'fast' position, engage the choke if the engine is cold, then pull the starter cord briskly.
If the mower won't start, check the fuel and oil levels. Ensure the spark plug is clean and properly connected. Inspect the air filter for dirt or obstructions and clean or replace it as necessary.
Change the oil after every 25 hours of use or at least once a season, whichever comes first. Use SAE 30 oil for best performance.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using ethanol blends higher than 10%.
To clean the cutting deck, disconnect the spark plug, tilt the mower to the side ensuring the air filter is up, and use a brush or hose to remove grass clippings and debris.
Excessive vibration can be caused by a damaged blade or loose parts. Inspect the blade for damage and tighten any loose bolts or components.
Disconnect the spark plug, remove the blade, and secure it in a vice. Use a metal file or grinder to sharpen the blade evenly on both sides, then balance it before reinstallation.
Ensure the blade is sharp and clean. Adjust the cutting height according to grass conditions, mow when the grass is dry, and maintain a steady pace.
At season's end, change the oil, clean the air filter, inspect and clean the spark plug, drain the fuel system, and store the mower in a dry place.
Locate the height adjustment lever on each wheel, and move the levers to the desired setting. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
