To start the McCulloch EAGER BEAVER II Trimmer, ensure the trimmer is on a flat surface. Set the choke to the "full" position, press the primer bulb 5-6 times, and pull the starter rope until the engine attempts to start. Once it starts, set the choke to "half" and allow the engine to run smoothly before setting it to "run".
Use a mixture of unleaded gasoline and quality 2-cycle engine oil at a ratio of 40:1. Make sure to use fresh gasoline and mix it thoroughly with the oil before filling the trimmer's fuel tank.
To replace the trimmer line, turn off the trimmer and disconnect the spark plug wire. Remove the spool by pressing the tabs on the spool cover. Cut approximately 20 feet of new trimmer line, feed it through the holes on the spool, wind it evenly, and reattach the spool to the trimmer.
If your trimmer won't start, check the fuel level and condition, ensure the spark plug is clean and properly gapped, and verify that the air filter is clean. If the problem persists, the carburetor might need cleaning or adjustment.
The air filter should be checked before each use and cleaned every 5 hours of operation or more frequently in dusty conditions. Wash with warm soapy water, rinse, and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
The recommended spark plug for the McCulloch EAGER BEAVER II Trimmer is a Champion RCJ6Y or equivalent. Ensure the spark plug gap is set to 0.025 inches (0.635 mm) for optimal performance.
To prevent the trimmer line from breaking, avoid striking hard surfaces such as concrete, rocks, or fences. Use the correct diameter line specified for your trimmer, and ensure the line is wound tightly and evenly on the spool.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the adjustment screws on the carburetor body. Turn the screws slightly while the engine is running until you achieve smooth idling and acceleration. It's recommended to refer to the user manual for specific adjustment procedures.
Wear safety goggles, gloves, and sturdy footwear. Keep bystanders away from the work area, and avoid operating the trimmer in wet conditions. Always hold the trimmer with both hands and be aware of the trimmer head direction.
To store your trimmer for the winter, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Clean the trimmer thoroughly, remove the spark plug, and add a few drops of oil into the cylinder. Reattach the spark plug without connecting the wire, and store the trimmer in a dry, cool place.
