Jotul 12 Firelight Operating Instructions

To start a fire, place crumpled newspaper and small kindling at the bottom. Light the newspaper and allow the kindling to catch fire. Gradually add larger logs once a good bed of coals has been established.
Use a soft cloth and a stove glass cleaner. Avoid abrasive materials that may scratch the glass. Cleaning should be done when the stove is cool to prevent cracks due to temperature changes.
Ensure the stove is properly ventilated and regularly cleaned. Use seasoned hardwood for better heat output and lower creosote buildup. Adjust the air intake to optimize burning.
Check that the chimney is clear of obstructions and that the damper is open. Ensure there is adequate ventilation in the room and that the stove door is properly sealed.
It is recommended to inspect and clean the chimney at least once a year, or more frequently if the stove is used heavily or if you notice excessive soot or creosote buildup.
Ensure the stove is installed according to manufacturer guidelines. Maintain clearances from combustible materials, use a suitable hearth pad, and install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home.
Remove the old gasket and clean the channel thoroughly. Apply a high-temperature adhesive and press the new gasket into place, ensuring it fits snugly without gaps. Allow it to dry before using the stove.
Check the air vents to ensure they are open for enough airflow. Use dry, seasoned wood. Make sure the chimney is not blocked and that the stove is not airtight, which can suffocate the fire.
Clean the stove thoroughly, including the firebox and flue. Inspect the gaskets, replace if necessary, and ensure all moving parts are working smoothly. Store ash and soot-free to prevent corrosion.
Burn only dry, seasoned wood and maintain a hot fire to ensure complete combustion. Regularly clean the stove and chimney, and ensure proper airflow to avoid smoldering fires.
