Icom IC-738 Instruction Manual

To perform a factory reset on the Icom IC-738, turn off the transceiver. Then, while holding down the [SET] and [LOCK] buttons, turn the transceiver back on. This will reset all settings to factory defaults.
To reduce RF interference on the IC-738, ensure all connections are secure and properly grounded. Use high-quality coaxial cables and consider using a high-pass filter if interference persists. Adjusting the RF gain and using the noise blanker function can also help.
Improve audio quality by adjusting the microphone gain and compression settings. Use a high-quality microphone and ensure that the modulation level is optimal. Regularly check and clean the microphone and connector contacts.
If the IC-738 loses memory settings, the internal backup battery may need replacement. Refer to the manual for instructions on replacing the battery, or contact a professional service technician.
To program frequencies, select the desired frequency and mode. Press and hold the [MW] button, then select the memory channel using the tuning dial. Release the [MW] button to store the frequency in the selected channel.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the exterior with a soft, dry cloth, checking all connections for corrosion, and ensuring the antenna is properly tuned. Periodically test all functions and consult the manual for any specific maintenance procedures.
The IC-738 does not support firmware updates as it is an older model. Ensure you have the latest operating manuals and supplementary materials provided by Icom for optimal operation.
If the display is not functioning, check the power supply and connections first. If the issue persists, the display module or related components may need servicing. Consult a professional technician for repairs.
To adjust the RF power output, press the [PWR] button and turn the main dial to set the desired power level. Ensure the power output level is appropriate for your antenna and operating conditions.
If the IC-738 overheats, ensure it is placed in a well-ventilated area. Check for obstructions around cooling vents and verify that the fan is working correctly. Reduce the transmission power if necessary, and avoid prolonged transmission periods.
