Honda recommends using 10W-40 or 10W-30 motorcycle oil with a capacity of approximately 1.26 quarts (1.2 liters) for the CRF450R.
Valve clearance should be checked and adjusted every 15 hours of riding. Regular maintenance ensures optimal engine performance.
The recommended tire pressure is 15 psi for both the front and rear tires. Adjust pressure based on terrain and rider preference.
Remove the air filter, clean it with a filter cleaner, rinse with water, allow it to dry, and apply air filter oil before reinstalling. Check after each ride in dusty conditions.
Check the fuel level, ensure the kill switch is in the 'run' position, inspect the spark plug, and verify the battery is charged.
Use the clickers on the fork and shock to adjust compression and rebound damping. Refer to the owner's manual for baseline settings and adjust according to terrain and rider weight.
Avoid full-throttle starts and high RPMs for the first 15 hours. Vary engine speed and avoid prolonged idling to ensure proper engine break-in.
Loosen the axle nut, adjust the chain adjusters evenly on both sides to achieve 1.2 inches of slack, then retighten the axle nut.
Stop immediately, allow the engine to cool, check the coolant level, and inspect for leaks. Ensure the radiator fins are clean and unobstructed.
Maintain proper tire pressure, regularly clean the air filter, and ensure the engine is properly tuned. Riding at moderate speeds can also enhance fuel efficiency.
