To power on the Cobra XRS 989, connect the power cord to the detector and plug it into your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket. The unit will automatically turn on when the vehicle starts.
The Cobra XRS 989 offers City, Highway, and Auto modes to optimize detection performance based on your driving environment.
To reduce false alerts, use the City mode in urban areas, as it filters out non-threatening signals. Regularly update the detector's firmware for improved accuracy.
Visit the Cobra website, download the latest firmware, and follow the instructions to connect the radar detector to your computer for updates.
Check the power connection and ensure the socket is functional. Inspect the power cord for damage and try using a different vehicle socket if necessary.
Use a soft, dry cloth to gently clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid using harsh chemicals or water. Keep the detector away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Use the included suction cup mount to attach the detector to your windshield or dashboard. Position the unit for a clear view of the road and ensure it is level.
The "VG-2 Alert" indicates detection of VG-2 radar detector-detectors, which are used by law enforcement to identify radar detectors. The XRS 989 can provide alerts and remain undetectable.
While radar detectors are legal in many states, they are prohibited in Virginia and Washington D.C. Always check local laws to ensure compliance.
To reset the Cobra XRS 989, press and hold the "Mute" and "City" buttons simultaneously until the unit beeps. This will restore all settings to factory defaults.
