To thread the Brother XL-2600i, start by raising the presser foot and turning off the machine. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin and follow the threading path as indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and take-up lever. Finish by threading the needle from front to back.
Thread bunching, also known as 'bird nesting,' can occur if the machine is not properly threaded or if the tension is incorrect. Re-thread the machine, making sure the presser foot is up during threading, and check that the upper tension is set between 4 and 5.
Frequent needle breakage can result from using the wrong needle type or size, incorrect threading, or sewing over pins. Ensure you are using the correct needle for your fabric, check threading, and avoid sewing over pins.
To adjust the stitch length, locate the stitch length dial on the right side of the machine. Turn the dial to select the desired stitch length, ranging from 0 (for no movement) to 4 (for the longest stitch).
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin case and feed dogs with a small brush to remove lint and debris. Oil the machine as per the user manual's instructions and ensure all moving parts are free from dust.
If the bobbin thread does not pick up, ensure that the needle is correctly inserted and not bent. Re-thread both the upper and bobbin threads, and make sure the bobbin is placed correctly in the case.
To sew a buttonhole, attach the buttonhole foot and select the buttonhole stitch. Place the fabric under the foot and lower the buttonhole lever. Follow the machine's instructions to complete the four-step buttonhole process.
To change the needle, turn off the machine and raise the needle to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back, and tighten the clamp screw securely.
Skipped stitches can be resolved by checking the needle; ensure it is not bent or dull. Re-thread the machine, checking for proper tension, and use the correct needle size and type for the fabric.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. For most fabrics, a setting between 4 and 5 is recommended. Test on scrap fabric and adjust as needed for balanced stitches.
