To thread the Brother CE-5000, first ensure the machine is turned off. Raise the presser foot lever, then turn the handwheel toward you to raise the needle to its highest position. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin and follow the threading path as indicated by the numbered guides on the machine. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
If your Brother CE-5000 is skipping stitches, check that the needle is installed correctly and not bent or blunt. Ensure you are using the correct needle and thread combination for your fabric. Re-thread the machine, both top thread and bobbin, and ensure the tension settings are correct.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin case area and feed dogs. Turn off the machine and remove the needle and presser foot. Open the shuttle cover and use a small brush or vacuum attachment to remove lint and dust. Oil the machine according to the user manual instructions if necessary.
If the fabric isn't feeding, make sure the presser foot is lowered and the feed dogs are engaged. Check that the stitch length setting is appropriate for your fabric. Also, ensure that the feed dogs are not covered or set to the "drop feed" position.
To adjust the tension, locate the tension dial on the front of the machine. For tighter tension, increase the number on the dial; for looser tension, decrease it. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to ensure the stitches are balanced.
The Brother CE-5000 is compatible with standard home sewing machine needles. Use needle sizes 9/70 to 16/100, depending on your fabric type. Refer to the user manual to select the correct needle for your project.
Place the spool of thread on the spool pin and follow the thread guide to the bobbin winder. Insert the bobbin on the bobbin winder shaft and push it to the right. Hold the thread end, start the machine to wind the bobbin, then cut the thread when the bobbin is full.
If the machine jams, turn it off and carefully remove the fabric. Check for tangled threads in the bobbin area, and remove any lint. Re-thread the machine and bobbin, ensuring the bobbin is inserted correctly. Resume sewing with a fresh start.
To change the presser foot, raise the presser foot lever and needle to their highest positions. Press the black button on the back of the presser foot holder to release the current foot. Align the new foot with the holder and lower the presser foot lever to snap it into place.
Thread bunching, or "bird nesting," is usually due to incorrect threading. Make sure the machine is threaded correctly, both top and bobbin. Check the tension settings and ensure the bobbin is inserted properly. Clean the bobbin area to remove any lint or debris.
