To thread the Brother SC707, first raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel to raise the needle. Place the spool on the spool pin, and draw the thread through the thread guide, down the right channel, around the tension discs, up the left channel, and through the take-up lever. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Check if the needle is bent or blunt and replace it if necessary. Ensure the needle is inserted correctly and that you are using the appropriate needle for the fabric. Re-thread the machine and check the tension settings.
Turn off and unplug the machine. Remove the needle plate and bobbin case, and use a brush to clear lint and debris. Oil the machine as per the manual's instructions, focusing on the bobbin area. Use only sewing machine oil. Reassemble the machine carefully.
Ensure the feed dogs are raised and not set to free-motion sewing. Check that the presser foot is down and applying sufficient pressure. If necessary, adjust the presser foot pressure according to the fabric thickness.
Use a size 16/100 or 18/110 denim needle. These needles have a strong shaft and sharp point designed to penetrate thick fabrics without breaking or bending.
Use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. For most fabrics, set the tension between 4 and 6. Test on a scrap piece of fabric and adjust gradually to achieve balanced stitches.
Ensure the bobbin is wound evenly and placed correctly in the bobbin case. Check the bobbin tension and re-thread the machine, making sure the upper thread is properly threaded.
Raise the needle to its highest position and lift the presser foot lever. Press the lever at the back of the foot holder to release the current presser foot. Align the new presser foot with the holder and lower the presser foot lever to secure it in place.
Ensure the machine is properly threaded and that the needle is not bent. Check for any loose screws or parts. Clean out any lint in the bobbin area and oil the machine according to the manual.
Attach the buttonhole foot and select the buttonhole stitch. Place the fabric under the foot with the buttonhole marking aligned. Lower the presser foot and sew, following the machine's instructions for creating a buttonhole.
