To thread the Brother JX1400, raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel toward you to raise the needle. Follow the threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread is seated properly in the tension discs. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Skipped stitches may occur if the needle is bent or dull. Replace the needle with a new one, ensuring it is the correct type and size for your fabric. Also, check that the machine is threaded correctly and the tension is adjusted properly.
To adjust the tension, locate the tension dial on the machine. For tighter tension, increase the number on the dial. For looser tension, decrease the number. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to ensure the stitches are balanced.
Regular cleaning includes removing lint and dust from the bobbin area and feed dogs using a small brush. Occasionally, oil the machine at designated points following the user manual instructions. Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
For lightweight fabrics like silk, use a size 9/70 needle. For medium-weight fabrics like cotton, use a size 11/80 or 14/90 needle. For heavy fabrics like denim, use a size 16/100 needle.
A loud noise can indicate the machine is not threaded properly or there is a buildup of lint. Re-thread the machine, clean the bobbin area, and ensure the needle is not bent or damaged.
To change the presser foot, raise the presser foot lever and turn off the machine. Press the lever at the back of the foot holder to release the current foot. Place the new foot under the holder and lower the presser foot lever to attach it.
Ensure the presser foot is lowered and the feed dogs are engaged. Check if there is lint under the feed dogs and clean if necessary. Adjust the presser foot pressure if your model allows.
If the bobbin is not winding smoothly, ensure it is correctly placed on the winder shaft. Check that the thread is following the correct path and that the bobbin winder stopper is in the correct position.
Thread bunching typically indicates a threading issue. Re-thread the machine, ensuring the upper thread is correctly placed in the tension discs. Also, check the bobbin is inserted correctly and the bobbin case is free of lint.
