To thread the Brother Innov-is 80, place the spool on the spool pin, guide the thread through the thread guide, down the right-hand side of the tension disc, up and over the take-up lever, then down to the needle. Ensure the needle is threaded from front to back.
Check if the machine is threaded correctly, ensure the bobbin is inserted properly, and verify the needle is not bent or dull. Also, confirm that the stitch settings are appropriate for the fabric being used.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the machine's front. Turn it to a higher number for tighter tension and to a lower number for looser tension. Test on a scrap fabric to achieve the desired stitch quality.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin case area, changing the needle after every project, and oiling the machine as per the manual's instructions. Periodically, have the machine serviced by a professional.
To change the presser foot, raise the presser foot lever, press the black button on the foot holder, and remove the current foot. Align the new foot with the holder and lower the presser foot lever to snap it into place.
Thread bunching can result from incorrect threading, incorrect bobbin winding, or inappropriate tension settings. Re-thread the machine and bobbin, and adjust the tension as needed.
Lower the presser foot and raise the needle to its highest position. Pull down the needle threader lever and hook the thread under the guides. Release the lever to pull the thread through the needle eye.
Stop sewing immediately and check for tangled thread or fabric jam. Ensure the machine is properly threaded and the bobbin is correctly inserted. Clean the bobbin area and rethread the machine if necessary.
Skipped stitches can be caused by a dull or bent needle, incorrect threading, or unsuitable needle and thread combination for the fabric. Replace the needle and rethread the machine, ensuring the needle type matches the fabric.
Use a universal needle for woven fabrics, a ballpoint needle for knits, and a sharp or microtex needle for fine or delicate fabrics. Consult the manual for specific recommendations based on fabric type and weight.
