To thread the Brother Innov-is 40e, start by raising the presser foot and turning the handwheel to raise the needle. Follow the numbered threading path, ensuring the thread passes through each guide. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
First, check if the machine is threaded correctly. Ensure the needle is installed correctly and is not bent or dull. Verify the bobbin is wound evenly and inserted properly. Adjust tension settings if needed.
Turn off the machine and raise the needle to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back and tighten the clamp screw securely.
Regularly clean the machine by removing lint and dust from the bobbin area and feed dogs. Oil the machine as recommended in the user manual. Check and replace needles frequently.
Press the stitch selection button to choose your desired stitch. Use the LCD screen to navigate through available options. Adjust stitch length and width using the corresponding dials.
Ensure the feed dogs are raised and not lowered for free-motion sewing. Check that the presser foot is down. Adjust the presser foot pressure if necessary and make sure the fabric is not too thick for the settings.
Place the thread spool on the spool pin and pass the thread through the bobbin winding guide. Insert the bobbin onto the bobbin winder shaft and push it to the right. Hold the thread tail and press the start button to wind the bobbin.
The Brother Innov-is 40e typically includes presser feet (e.g., zigzag foot, buttonhole foot), bobbins, a needle set, a seam ripper, a screwdriver, and a foot controller.
Re-thread the machine, ensuring the thread is correctly seated in the tension discs. Test on a fabric scrap, adjusting the upper tension dial gradually. Check bobbin tension if problems persist.
Turn off and unplug the machine. Remove the needle plate and bobbin case. Use a small brush to clean lint and dust. Wipe the exterior with a soft cloth. Reassemble the machine once clean.
