Brother CE4400 Operation Manual

To thread the Brother CE4400, start by raising the presser foot and turning the handwheel to raise the needle. Follow the threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension disc, take-up lever, and thread guides before threading the needle from front to back.
If the machine is skipping stitches, check if the needle is correctly inserted and not bent or damaged. Ensure you are using the correct needle type and size for the fabric. Also, re-thread the machine and check the tension settings.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin area and feed dogs with a brush. Remove lint and dust, and occasionally oil the machine's moving parts as per the user manual's instructions. Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
Bunching can occur if the bobbin is not wound properly, the bobbin case is not inserted correctly, or if the upper thread is not threaded correctly. Re-thread both the upper thread and bobbin, ensuring correct tension.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. Increase the tension for tighter stitches and decrease for looser stitches. Test on a scrap fabric until the desired stitch quality is achieved.
Use standard sewing machine needles compatible with the fabric type, such as universal needles for woven fabrics and ballpoint needles for knits. Polyester or cotton threads are recommended based on the fabric being sewn.
To change the presser foot, raise the presser foot lever and press the black button on the back of the presser foot holder to release the current foot. Align the new presser foot with the holder and lower the presser foot lever until it snaps into place.
Check that the feed dogs are raised and not covered by the needle plate. Ensure the presser foot is down and the fabric is not too thick for the selected stitch. Adjust the presser foot pressure if necessary.
Select the buttonhole stitch on the machine, attach the buttonhole foot, and place the button in the foot's holder. Position the fabric and lower the buttonhole lever. Start sewing, and the machine will automatically create the buttonhole.
Needle breakage can be caused by incorrect needle insertion, using the wrong needle for the fabric, or incorrect threading. Ensure the needle is properly installed, and check that it is suitable for the fabric and thread being used.
