To install the Viking DFC180 Compactor, ensure it is placed on a flat, stable surface. Secure the unit by following the installation guide which includes connecting the electrical plug to a grounded outlet and fastening the compactor into its designated cabinet space using the provided screws and brackets.
If the compactor won't start, first check if it is plugged in correctly. Ensure that the circuit breaker or fuse is not tripped. Also, verify that the drawer is fully closed as the unit will not operate if it's ajar.
Regularly clean the exterior and interior surfaces with a mild detergent and a soft cloth. Remove the trash bag and clean any spills immediately to prevent odors. Consider using a deodorizer to keep the compactor smelling fresh.
If the compactor is noisy, check for any loose items or debris in the drawer or under the unit. Inspect the drive gear and ram for wear or damage. Tighten any loose screws and ensure the unit is level to reduce vibrations.
To replace the ram drive belt, disconnect the power supply. Remove the unit from its cabinet and access the motor compartment. Loosen the motor mounting bolts, replace the belt, and adjust the tension before reassembling.
Signs of a failing motor include unusual noises, a burning smell, or the compactor failing to operate. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's advisable to have the motor inspected by a professional technician.
Trash bags should be changed as soon as they are full or at least once a week to prevent odors and ensure efficient compaction. Using heavy-duty bags specifically designed for compactors is recommended.
If the drawer is stuck, check for any obstructions or items lodged in the track. Gently wiggle the drawer while applying slight pressure to free it. If the issue persists, inspect the tracks and wheels for damage.
To reset the compactor, unplug the unit from the power outlet, wait for about 5 minutes, and then plug it back in. This can help resolve minor electronic issues.
It is recommended to clean the compactor monthly, inspect for wear and tear quarterly, and have a professional maintenance check annually to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
