To format the SD card on the Tascam DR-100MKII, insert the card into the device, press the MENU button, navigate to 'CARD' using the scroll wheel, select 'FORMAT', and confirm the action when prompted. This will erase all data on the card, so ensure you've backed up important files.
To reduce wind noise during outdoor recordings, use a windscreen or a furry wind cover on the built-in microphones of the DR-100MKII. Additionally, positioning the recorder in a way that minimizes direct wind exposure can help.
To extend battery life, use the external battery pack option, reduce the screen backlight duration, and turn off features like phantom power when not needed. Carrying extra AA batteries or a fully charged external battery pack can also ensure longer recording sessions.
Download the latest firmware from the Tascam website and copy it to the root directory of an SD card. Insert the card into the DR-100MKII, power on the device while holding the 'MARK' and 'PB CONT' buttons, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
Use the INPUT switch to select the desired input source, then adjust the INPUT volume knob to set the recording level. Aim for levels that peak around -6dB to -12dB to ensure clear recordings without distortion. Monitor the levels using the built-in meters.
If the DR-100MKII becomes unresponsive, try removing and reinserting the batteries to perform a soft reset. If the issue persists, ensure the firmware is up-to-date and try reformatting the SD card. If problems continue, contact Tascam support for assistance.
Connect the external microphone to the XLR or 1/4" input jacks on the bottom of the device. If the microphone requires phantom power, enable it via the PHANTOM switch. Adjust the input settings using the INPUT switch and volume controls for optimal recording results.
The DR-100MKII is primarily designed as a field recorder and does not support direct USB audio interface functionality. To transfer recordings to a computer, connect the device via USB and access the files like a standard USB drive.
Press the MENU button, navigate to 'REC MODE', and select the desired format (WAV/MP3) and quality (bit rate/sample rate). Higher settings offer better audio quality but result in larger file sizes. Choose settings based on your storage capacity and audio quality needs.
Store the DR-100MKII in a cool, dry place to avoid moisture damage. Remove the batteries if the device won't be used for an extended period. Regularly check the firmware for updates, and clean the device with a soft, dry cloth to maintain its condition.
