It is recommended to change the oil every 3,500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first, to ensure optimal engine performance.
Use a high-quality 10W-40 motorcycle oil that meets the API SG or JASO MA standards. Synthetic or semi-synthetic oils are preferred for better performance.
To adjust the chain tension, place the bike on a stand, loosen the axle nut, adjust the tension using the adjusters on both sides of the swing arm, and retighten the axle nut. Ensure the chain has about 1.2-1.6 inches of slack.
The recommended tire pressure is 22 psi for the front tire and 25 psi for the rear tire when riding solo. Adjust accordingly for different load conditions.
Check the battery for charge and connections, ensure the fuel is fresh, inspect the spark plug for wear, and verify that the kill switch is not engaged.
Clean the air filter every 3,500 miles or more frequently if riding in dusty conditions. Replace the filter if it shows signs of wear or damage.
The DR650S has adjustable preload for the rear suspension. Use the preload adjuster to increase or decrease the tension based on your weight and riding preference.
Check for coolant leaks, ensure the radiator is not obstructed, verify proper coolant levels, and inspect the fan operation. Stop riding and let the engine cool before investigating further.
Maintain proper tire pressure, ensure regular maintenance like oil changes and air filter cleanings, avoid aggressive acceleration, and reduce excess weight on the bike.
Common issues include battery failure, corroded connections, and blown fuses. Regularly check and clean electrical connections, replace fuses as needed, and ensure the battery is properly maintained.
