The Sony CFD-454 requires six 'C' size batteries for portable operation. Ensure the batteries are inserted correctly, following the polarity markings.
Check that the volume is turned up and not muted. Ensure the headphones are unplugged and verify that the function selector is set to the correct source (e.g., CD, Radio, Tape).
Use a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the heads, capstans, and pinch rollers. Allow them to dry completely before using the cassette player.
The Sony CFD-454 is designed as a standalone unit and does not support external speaker connections. For improved sound, use high-quality headphones.
Insert a blank cassette tape, tune to the desired radio station, and press the 'Record' button along with 'Play' on the cassette deck to start recording.
Unplug the unit and remove any batteries to reset the device. Reconnect the power and try the buttons again. If the issue persists, contact Sony support for further assistance.
