To adjust the reach, locate the reach adjustment screw on the inside of the brake lever. Use a small Allen key to turn the screw clockwise to reduce the reach or counterclockwise to increase it, ensuring the lever is comfortably accessible for your hand size.
A spongy brake lever typically indicates air in the hydraulic system. Bleed the brakes using a Shimano bleed kit, following the Shimano's bleeding procedure to remove any trapped air and restore firm lever feel.
First, remove the wheel. Use a 3mm Allen key to remove the retaining pin. Slide the old pads out and insert the new ones. Reinsert the pin and ensure it's secure. Check alignment and rotor clearance before reattaching the wheel.
This issue might be due to dirt or debris in the lever mechanism or a problem with the hydraulic system. Clean the lever and inspect for obstructions. If the issue persists, check the hydraulic line for blockages or damage.
Regular maintenance should be performed every six months, or more frequently if you ride in harsh conditions. This includes checking pad wear, cleaning the rotors, and bleeding the brakes if necessary.
Shimano hydraulic brakes, including the 105 BR-R7070 model, require Shimano Mineral Oil. Using other types of brake fluid can damage the system and void warranties.
While it's possible to mix components, it's not recommended as the system is designed for optimal performance with Shimano parts. Compatibility issues can affect braking performance and reliability.
Use isopropyl alcohol and a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe down the rotors. Avoid oil-based cleaners to prevent contamination. Regular cleaning maintains optimal braking performance.
Loosen the caliper mounting bolts slightly, squeeze the brake lever to center the caliper over the rotor, and retighten the bolts while holding the lever. This ensures the caliper is aligned properly.
Squealing brakes can be due to contamination or misalignment. Clean the rotors and pads thoroughly, and ensure proper alignment of the calipers. Bedding in new pads properly can also reduce noise.
