To install the Shimano 105 FD-5801 front derailleur, start by mounting it onto the frame's braze-on mount. Align the derailleur cage parallel to the chain and adjust the height so it's 1-3mm above the largest chainring teeth. Secure the mounting bolt and proceed to adjust the limit screws.
To adjust the limit screws, set the low limit screw so the inner plate of the cage is close to the chain without rubbing when on the smallest chainring. Adjust the high limit screw so the outer plate is close to the chain when on the largest chainring, again without rubbing.
If you experience chain rub, first ensure that the derailleur is properly aligned and the limit screws are correctly set. Check cable tension as it can affect shifting performance. Fine-tune by adjusting the barrel adjuster on the shifter to increase or decrease tension.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the derailleur pivot points and lubricating them to ensure smooth operation. Inspect the derailleur for any signs of wear or damage and check cable tension periodically to maintain optimal shifting performance.
Ensure that the derailleur is correctly aligned and that the limit screws are properly set. Check and adjust cable tension using the barrel adjuster. Inspect the derailleur for any dirt or debris that might impede its movement and clean as necessary.
The correct cable tension is achieved when the derailleur smoothly shifts between chainrings without hesitation. Fine-tune the tension using the barrel adjuster to ensure optimal performance. Proper tension usually requires a balance where the derailleur moves freely without rubbing.
To adjust the height, loosen the mounting bolt and position the derailleur cage so it is 1-3mm above the teeth of the largest chainring. Ensure that the cage is parallel to the chainring before tightening the mounting bolt securely.
Noise can result from improper alignment, incorrect limit screw settings, or inadequate cable tension. Check these adjustments first. Also, ensure the derailleur is clean and lubricated to prevent noise from dirt or friction.
To prevent chain drop, ensure the front derailleur is correctly aligned and the limit screws are properly set. Check that the chainring is not excessively worn and that the chain is the correct length and properly tensioned.
You will need a 5mm hex key to adjust the mounting bolt, a screwdriver for the limit screws, and a set of pliers or a cable puller to adjust the cable tension. A torque wrench may also be helpful for precise adjustments.
