Turn the ignition to the "On" position without starting the engine. Press the accelerator pedal to the floor three times within five seconds. The oil life indicator should reset.
For a 2005 Pontiac G6, it is recommended to use 5W-30 engine oil, meeting the GM6094M standard.
Check the AC fuse and relay first. If they are fine, ensure the refrigerant level is adequate. Inspect the compressor clutch and serpentine belt for any signs of wear or failure.
The squealing noise is likely due to a worn or loose serpentine belt. Inspect the belt for cracks or damage, and replace it if necessary. Also, check the belt tensioner for proper function.
Park on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Place a wheel chock behind the opposite wheel. Use the jack to lift the vehicle and remove the lug nuts with a wrench. Replace the tire and tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern. Lower the vehicle and double-check the lug nut tightness.
The recommended tire pressure for the 2005 Pontiac G6 is 30 psi for both front and rear tires. Always check the tire pressure when the tires are cold.
Open the hood and locate the back of the headlight assembly. Remove the electrical connector and twist the bulb counterclockwise to remove it. Insert the new bulb, twist it clockwise, and reconnect the electrical connector.
Check the coolant level and look for any leaks in the system. Inspect the radiator and cooling fans to ensure they are functioning properly. Also, verify that the thermostat and water pump are working correctly.
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position. Press and hold the "Unlock" and "Lock" buttons on the key fob simultaneously until the locks cycle. This indicates the programming was successful.
Check the gas cap to ensure it is tightened properly, as a loose cap can trigger the light. If the light remains on, use an OBD-II scanner to read the trouble codes for further diagnosis.
