To break in your Polaris Sportsman WV 850 H.O, avoid prolonged operation at high speeds during the first 10 hours of use. Vary the throttle and use different speeds to ensure all engine components wear evenly.
Regular maintenance should include checking the oil level, inspecting the brakes, ensuring the tire pressure is correct, and examining the drive belt for wear.
If the ATV won't start, check the battery connections for tightness and corrosion, ensure the fuel level is adequate, and examine the spark plug for fouling or damage.
Polaris recommends using their branded PS-4 Synthetic 5W-50 engine oil for optimal performance and protection of the WV 850 H.O engine.
Remove the air filter and gently wash it with warm soapy water. Allow it to dry completely before applying a light coat of air filter oil and reinstalling it.
If overheating occurs, stop the vehicle and let it idle to cool down. Check the coolant level and ensure the radiator is clear of debris. Consider inspecting the thermostat if the problem persists.
Adjust the suspension by changing the preload on the shocks. This can be done by turning the preload adjuster rings to either increase or decrease tension, providing a firmer or softer ride.
Common signs of a worn drive belt include slipping during acceleration, unusual noises, and visible cracks or fraying on the belt itself.
Spark plugs should be inspected every 6 months or 100 hours of operation and replaced if they show signs of wear or damage.
The Polaris Sportsman WV 850 H.O is designed to handle some water exposure, but it is not recommended to submerge it beyond the footrests to avoid water entering the air intake or electrical system.
