To check the oil level, ensure the ATV is on a level surface. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it without screwing it in, and then remove it again to check the oil level.
Polaris recommends using PS-4 Synthetic 5W-50 oil for optimal performance in the Sportsman 850 SP Touring.
The oil should be changed after the first 25 hours of use, and then every 100 hours, six months, or 1,000 miles thereafter, whichever comes first.
Check the battery connections, ensure the kill switch is in the 'run' position, verify fuel level, and check the spark plug for fouling or damage.
Regularly check brake fluid levels, inspect brake pads for wear, and ensure there are no leaks in the brake lines. Replace components as necessary.
Ensure the radiator is clean and free of debris, check coolant levels, and verify the fan is functioning properly. Overheating could also be caused by a faulty thermostat.
The Sportsman 850 SP Touring has adjustable shocks. Use the adjustment knobs on the shocks to increase or decrease preload to suit your riding conditions and preferences.
The recommended tire pressure for the front tires is 7 psi and for the rear tires is 7 psi, but always check your owner's manual for specific recommendations.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the air filter, and clean it with a mild detergent and water. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling. Do not oil the filter if it is a dry type.
For seasonal storage, clean the ATV thoroughly, add fuel stabilizer, change the oil, remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place, and cover the ATV to protect it from dust and moisture.
