To start your Polaris Sportsman in cold weather, ensure that the battery is fully charged. Turn the ignition key to the 'ON' position, wait for the fuel pump to prime, and then start the engine without using the throttle.
It is recommended to change the oil in your Polaris Sportsman every 50 hours of operation or every six months, whichever comes first. Always use the oil type specified in your owner's manual.
If your engine won't start, check the battery charge, ensure that the kill switch is in the 'RUN' position, verify fuel level, and inspect spark plugs for fouling. If the issue persists, consult a professional technician.
Before storing your Polaris Sportsman for the winter, clean it thoroughly, change the oil, stabilize the fuel, disconnect the battery, and store it in a dry place with a cover.
To adjust the suspension on your Polaris Sportsman, locate the shock absorbers and use the adjustment ring to increase or decrease the preload based on your riding preference and load.
If your Polaris Sportsman overheats, stop the engine immediately and let it cool down. Check coolant levels and ensure the radiator is not obstructed. If overheating continues, have the cooling system inspected by a technician.
To clean the air filter, remove it from the air box, wash it with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and let it dry. Apply air filter oil before reinstalling. Replace if damaged or excessively dirty.
Use a tire pressure gauge to check the pressure when the tires are cold. Compare the readings to the recommended PSI in your owner's manual and adjust as needed.
To improve battery life, keep the terminals clean and tight, avoid deep discharges, use a battery maintainer when not in use for extended periods, and store the ATV in a moderate climate.
Regularly inspect brakes, tires, lights, fluid levels, and steering components. Ensure all bolts and nuts are tight and that the throttle and brake systems are functioning properly.
