Polaris Hawkeye 2x4, 4x4 Owner's Manual

To change the oil, first warm up the engine. Then, locate the drain plug underneath the engine, remove it, and let the oil drain into a pan. Replace the drain plug and refill with the recommended oil type and amount. Don't forget to change the oil filter as well.
If your Hawkeye 4x4 won't start, check the battery connections and charge the battery if needed. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Ensure there's adequate fuel and the fuel valve is open. Finally, check the fuses and replace any that are blown.
Routinely check and change the oil, inspect the brakes, clean the air filter, and check tire pressure. Lubricate moving parts, inspect the drive chain or belt, and ensure all nuts and bolts are tightened. Regularly inspect and maintain the battery and electrical connections.
Polaris recommends using their specific brand of 4-cycle engine oil or an equivalent synthetic oil specifically designed for ATVs. Always refer to your owner's manual for the correct viscosity and specifications.
Start by checking the battery for charge and connections. Inspect the fuses and replace any that are blown. Examine wiring for signs of wear or damage, and ensure all connectors are secure. Use a multimeter to test for continuity and voltage in the electrical system.
Common signs include squeaking or grinding noises when braking, reduced braking performance, and a spongy brake lever feel. Visual inspection may reveal thin or unevenly worn brake pads. Replace the pads if any of these symptoms are present.
To adjust the chain tension, locate the chain adjusters on the rear axle. Loosen the axle nut, then turn the adjusters evenly on both sides to achieve the desired tension. The chain should have about 1/2 inch of slack. Tighten the axle nut once the adjustment is complete.
Overheating can be caused by low coolant levels, a malfunctioning thermostat, or a clogged radiator. Check the coolant level and top off if necessary. Inspect the radiator for debris and clean it. If the problem persists, consider replacing the thermostat.
Clean the ATV thoroughly, change the oil and filter, and fill the gas tank, adding a fuel stabilizer. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Inflate the tires to the recommended pressure and cover the ATV to protect it from dust and moisture.
Remove the air filter from its housing and tap it gently to remove loose dirt. Wash it with soapy water and rinse thoroughly, then allow it to dry completely. Lightly oil the filter before reinstalling it. Replace the filter if it shows signs of excessive wear or damage.
