The recommended oil type for the Polaris 2003 Sportsman 600 and 700 is Polaris Premium 4 Synthetic 0W-40.
It is recommended to change the oil every 100 hours of operation or annually, whichever comes first.
To check the coolant level, ensure the engine is cool, remove the radiator cap, and verify that the coolant reaches the top of the filler neck. If needed, add a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and distilled water.
First, check the battery connections for corrosion and ensure they are tight. Verify that the battery is charged. Inspect the spark plug for fouling and replace if necessary. Check the fuel supply and fuel filter for blockages.
The recommended tire pressure for both the front and rear tires is 5 psi. Always check the tire pressure when tires are cold.
To inspect the brakes, visually check the brake pads and rotors for wear. Measure the brake pad thickness, and replace them if they are below the minimum thickness specified in the owner's manual. Ensure there are no leaks in the brake lines.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the air filter, and inspect it for damage or debris. Clean the filter with a mild detergent and water, rinse it thoroughly, and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling. Apply a light coat of filter oil if required.
To adjust the suspension, locate the preload adjuster on each shock absorber. Turn the adjuster clockwise to increase preload for a firmer ride or counterclockwise to decrease preload for a softer ride. Ensure adjustments are made evenly on each side.
If your Sportsman 600 is overheating, first check the coolant level and top it up if necessary. Ensure the radiator is clean and free of debris. Verify that the fan is operational. If the problem persists, consult a professional technician for further diagnosis.
To check the drive belt tension, remove the belt cover and inspect the belt for wear. Use a tension gauge to measure belt tension, and adjust according to the specifications in the service manual. Replace the belt if it shows signs of excessive wear or damage.
