To reset your Onkyo HT R538 to factory settings, press and hold the VCR/DVD button while pressing the On/Standby button. When you see 'Clear' on the display, release the VCR/DVD button. This will reset the receiver to its default settings.
First, check that all cables are properly connected. Ensure that the receiver is not muted and that the correct input source is selected. Also, verify that the speakers are correctly connected and that the speaker settings are configured properly in the setup menu.
