To break in the engine, ride the motorcycle at varying RPMs and avoid full throttle for the first 1-2 hours of operation. Gradually increase the load and avoid prolonged high-speed runs. After the break-in period, change the oil and check for any loose bolts or fasteners.
Use a high-quality, fully synthetic 10W-50 4-stroke motorcycle oil. Change the oil and oil filter every 10 hours of operation or after every race for optimal performance and engine longevity.
Adjust the suspension by tuning the fork and shock settings. For softer terrain, decrease compression damping; for hard terrain, increase it. Rebound damping should be set to allow the suspension to return quickly enough to handle successive bumps but not so fast that it causes instability.
First, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel is fresh. Verify that the battery is charged and the terminals are clean and tight. Inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage, and ensure the kill switch is in the 'run' position.
Remove the air filter after every ride, especially in dusty conditions. Clean it with a non-flammable solvent, let it dry, and apply a thin layer of air filter oil. Ensure it is properly seated when reinstalling to prevent dirt ingress.
Check the coolant level and top it up if necessary. Inspect the radiator for blockages or damage. Ensure the water pump is functioning correctly and that the fan (if equipped) is operational.
Place the bike on a stand and adjust the chain tension so there is about 55-70mm of slack measured at the midpoint of the chain. Loosen the axle nut, adjust the tensioners evenly on both sides, and then tighten the axle nut to the specified torque.
Remove the seat and fuel tank to access the engine. Disconnect the spark plug cap and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Install the new plug, ensuring it is properly gapped, and torque it to the manufacturer's specifications.
Start by checking all fuses and connections for corrosion or damage. Test the battery voltage and ensure it is charged. Inspect wiring for any signs of wear or damage, and verify that switches and sensors are functioning correctly.
Regular maintenance includes checking and adjusting valve clearances, lubricating cables and pivots, inspecting brake pads and fluid, tightening bolts, and checking tire pressure and condition. Clean and lubricate the chain after every ride.
