To adjust the chain tension, place the bike on a stand to lift the rear wheel. Ensure the chain has a slack of about 5 to 7 mm measured at the tightest point. Use the adjusters on both sides of the swingarm to set the correct tension and align the rear wheel. Tighten the axle nut to secure the adjustment.
The recommended oil type is a fully synthetic 10W-50 engine oil. The oil capacity, including the oil filter change, is approximately 1.7 liters.
If the bike won't start, check the battery for charge and connections, inspect the fuses, and ensure the kill switch is in the 'run' position. Verify there's sufficient fuel and that the fuel pump is operational. If the problem persists, consult a professional mechanic.
The recommended tire pressure for the KTM SMC 690 R 2020 is 29 psi for the front tire and 29 psi for the rear tire for normal street use. Adjust according to off-road conditions.
The air filter should be inspected every 5,000 km and replaced if necessary. However, if you ride in dusty or off-road conditions, check and clean it more frequently.
Common causes of overheating include low coolant levels, a faulty thermostat, a clogged radiator, or a malfunctioning cooling fan. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent overheating issues.
To reset the service light, turn the ignition on, navigate to the settings menu on the display, and follow the prompts to reset the service interval. Refer to the owner's manual for detailed instructions if needed.
The suspension system requires regular inspection for leaks and wear. It's recommended to service the forks and shock absorber every 15,000 km or as needed based on riding conditions. Adjust the settings according to rider preference and load.
To bleed the brakes, first remove the reservoir cover, then attach a clear hose to the caliper bleed valve. Pump the brake lever several times, hold it in, and open the bleed valve to release air and old fluid. Close the valve and repeat until no air bubbles are present and fresh fluid is visible.
KTM recommends using a high-quality ethylene glycol-based coolant with corrosion inhibitors specifically for aluminum engines. Ensure the coolant is mixed with distilled water in a 1:1 ratio for optimal performance.
