The recommended engine oil type for the John Deere 5085M engine is John Deere Plus-50 II 15W-40 or an equivalent oil that meets the API CJ-4 or higher specifications.
It is recommended to change the engine oil and oil filter every 500 hours of operation or at least once a year, whichever comes first.
To bleed air from the fuel system, locate the bleed screw on the fuel filter housing. Loosen the screw and use the manual fuel pump to purge air until fuel flows without air bubbles, then tighten the screw.
Check the battery connections and charge if necessary, ensure the fuel shut-off valve is open, verify fuel levels, and inspect fuel lines for blockages. If the issue persists, consult a John Deere technician.
Regular maintenance including timely oil changes, air filter replacements, and ensuring proper tire pressure can help improve fuel efficiency. Additionally, operate at optimal engine speeds and avoid excessive idling.
Use John Deere COOL-GARD II pre-mixed coolant. The engine cooling system capacity is approximately 15 liters (15.9 quarts).
Perform a visual inspection for leaks, check fluid levels (oil, coolant, hydraulic), inspect belts and hoses for wear, and listen for unusual noises during operation.
Signs include reduced engine performance, increased fuel consumption, and visible dirt or damage to the air filter element. Replace the air filter every 500 hours or as needed based on conditions.
To reset the service interval indicator, turn the key to the "Run" position without starting the engine. Press and hold the "Select" button on the dashboard until the indicator resets.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, fill the fuel tank, add a fuel stabilizer, disconnect the battery, and store in a dry, sheltered location. Cover with a tarp to protect from dust and debris.
