To break in the engine, start with a rich fuel mixture and let the engine idle for a few tanks without driving. Gradually lean out the mixture and perform short, gentle runs, allowing the engine to cool between sessions. This ensures proper seating of the piston and sleeve.
Check the glow plug for proper operation and replace if necessary. Ensure the fuel lines are free of obstructions and the carburetor settings are correct. Verify the engine has adequate compression and inspect the pull-start mechanism for any wear or damage.
After each use, clean the vehicle to remove dirt and debris, inspect for any damaged parts, and ensure all screws and nuts are tightened. Clean the air filter and check the fuel system for leaks or clogs. Lubricate moving parts as needed.
For loose surfaces, soften the suspension by using lighter shock oil and springs. On high-grip tracks, stiffen the suspension with heavier oil and springs. Adjust the ride height and camber angles to suit the track layout and personal driving style.
Check the camber and toe settings for proper alignment. Ensure the suspension components are not worn or damaged, and that the tire pressures are equal. Balancing the tires may also help in reducing uneven wear.
Clean the car thoroughly and remove any fuel from the tank and lines to prevent gumming. Store the vehicle in a cool, dry place. Disconnect the batteries and store them separately, ensuring they are charged to the recommended storage voltage.
To increase top speed, consider changing to a larger pinion gear or smaller spur gear, which will require retuning the engine for optimal performance. Additionally, reducing the car's weight and improving aerodynamics may contribute to higher speeds.
Check for loose or worn parts, such as bearings, gears, and drive shafts. Inspect the clutch and differentials for signs of damage or misalignment. Lubricate any dry or squeaky moving parts.
Start with the factory baseline settings, then adjust the high-speed needle for top-end performance and the low-speed needle for smooth idling and acceleration. Ensure both needles are set to a slightly rich mixture to prevent engine overheating.
Shut off the engine and allow it to cool. Use a glow plug wrench to unscrew the old plug and remove it. Inspect the new glow plug to ensure it's the correct type, then insert and tighten it using the glow plug wrench. Test the engine for proper operation.
