To break in the engine, start by running the engine at a rich setting for several tanks of fuel. Use low speeds and avoid full throttle. Gradually lean out the fuel mixture as you progress through the break-in process. This will ensure proper sealing of the piston and cylinder.
Begin by setting the high-speed needle to factory settings. Adjust the low-speed needle for smooth idling. Then, fine-tune the high-speed needle during a full throttle run to achieve optimal power while ensuring the engine does not overheat.
Check the glow plug to ensure it’s working properly. Verify that the fuel is reaching the carburetor. Inspect the air filter for clogs and ensure the carburetor settings are not too lean. Finally, make sure the pull-start mechanism is functioning correctly.
After each use, clean the chassis and body with compressed air or a soft brush. Check for loose screws and bolts. Inspect the drivetrain and suspension components for wear and damage. Clean and re-oil the air filter and ensure the fuel tank is empty before storage.
To adjust the suspension, alter the shock oil weight and spring tension to accommodate various terrains. For rough terrain, use softer springs and thicker shock oil. For smooth surfaces, stiffer springs and lighter shock oil may be preferred. Adjusting the ride height can also improve performance on different terrains.
Ensure the engine is not running too lean by adjusting the carburetor settings. Check for airflow blockages around the cooling head. Verify that the fuel mixture is appropriate for the ambient temperature and that the glow plug is not worn out.
Replace the glow plug if you notice difficulty starting the engine, if the engine runs inconsistently, or after every few gallons of fuel for optimal performance. Always keep a spare glow plug handy as a backup.
Use high-quality nitro fuel with a 20-30% nitromethane content for the Savage SS 4.6. Ensure that the fuel is fresh and stored in a cool, dry place to maintain its effectiveness.
Remove the air filter and wash it with soap and water. Allow it to dry completely before applying air filter oil. Reinstall the filter securely to prevent dirt from entering the engine. Regular cleaning will prolong engine life.
Signs that the clutch may need servicing include sluggish acceleration, unusual noises during operation, or visible wear on the clutch bell or shoes. Inspect the clutch components regularly and replace any worn parts to maintain optimal performance.
