To thread the machine, follow the threading path indicated on the machine's body. Start by placing the spool on the spool pin, pass the thread through the thread guide, down through the tension discs, up through the take-up lever, and finally through the needle eye.
Skipping stitches can often be resolved by rethreading the machine, ensuring the needle is correctly inserted with the flat side facing the correct direction, and using the correct needle and thread for the fabric type.
To adjust the tension, turn the tension dial located on the front of the machine. For tighter tension, turn the dial to a higher number, and for looser tension, turn it to a lower number. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to achieve the desired stitch quality.
A loud noise may be caused by a lack of lubrication. Check that the machine is properly oiled according to the maintenance schedule. Also, inspect for any loose screws or parts and tighten them as necessary.
To replace the needle, turn off the machine and ensure the needle is in the highest position. Loosen the needle clamp screw, remove the old needle, insert a new needle with the flat side facing the designated direction, and tighten the clamp screw securely.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning lint from the bobbin area after each use, oiling the machine every 10 hours of operation, and having it professionally serviced annually to ensure optimal performance.
Thread breakage can be caused by incorrect threading, using a damaged needle, or having too much tension. Check the threading, replace the needle if necessary, and adjust the tension to prevent breakage.
Uneven stitches may be caused by inconsistent tension or incorrect needle use. Check the thread tension, ensure the needle size is appropriate for the fabric, and verify the machine is threaded correctly.
If the motor runs but the needle does not move, check if the handwheel is disengaged. Engage the clutch by turning the handwheel towards you until it locks, ensuring the machine is ready to sew.
To clean the bobbin area, first remove the needle plate and take out the bobbin case. Use a brush or compressed air to remove lint and debris. Reassemble the parts carefully after cleaning.
