Start by raising the presser foot and turning the handwheel towards you to raise the needle to its highest position. Follow the threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and take-up lever accurately.
Common causes include incorrect needle size or type, improper needle insertion, excessive tension, or sewing over thick seams. Ensure the needle is appropriate for the fabric and is inserted correctly.
Use the tension dial located on the machine's front. Turn right to increase tension and left to decrease. Test the tension settings on a scrap fabric to ensure the stitches are even on both sides.
Check if the needle is bent or blunt and replace it if necessary. Verify that the needle is installed correctly and that the thread is properly threaded. Also, ensure the fabric is being fed evenly.
Regularly clean the machine by removing lint and dust from the bobbin area and feed dogs. Lubricate the moving parts as per the manual's instructions and ensure the machine is covered when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.
Unusual noises can be caused by loose parts, lack of lubrication, or debris in the machine. Check for loose screws, ensure the machine is well-oiled, and clean any lint or thread caught in the mechanism.
Uneven stitches can result from incorrect tension settings, poor quality thread, or a dull needle. Re-evaluate the tension, use high-quality thread, and replace the needle if it is worn out.
Turn off the machine and remove the bobbin case. Insert a wound bobbin into the case, ensuring the thread unwinds in the correct direction. Place the bobbin case back into the machine and pull the thread through the slot.
Fabric puckering can often be resolved by adjusting the tension settings, using the correct needle and thread for the fabric, and ensuring the presser foot pressure is appropriate for the fabric thickness.
Ensure the machine is plugged in and the power switch is on. Check the fuse and power outlet for issues. If the machine still doesn't start, consult the manual or contact a professional technician for assistance.
