To thread the Dürkopp Adler 271 Sewing Machine, start by raising the needle to its highest position. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin and pass the thread through the upper thread guide. Continue threading through the tension discs, the take-up lever, and down through the needle bar thread guide before threading the needle from front to back.
If the machine is skipping stitches, check if the needle is bent or dull, and replace it if necessary. Ensure that the needle is installed correctly with the flat side facing the back. Verify that the machine is threaded properly and that the tension is adjusted correctly. Ensure the fabric is suitable for the needle and thread being used.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. Turn the dial clockwise for tighter tension and counterclockwise for looser tension. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to ensure the tension is balanced between the upper and bobbin threads.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the machine after each use, especially removing lint from the bobbin case and feed dogs. Oil the machine as per the manufacturer's instructions, typically at the designated oiling points. Check the needle regularly and replace it after every project or when it shows signs of wear.
First, turn off the machine and check for any obstructions or loose parts. Ensure the needle is not bent and that the bobbin is correctly inserted. Inspect the machine for any threads caught in the mechanism. If the noise persists, consult the manual or contact a professional technician.
To change the presser foot, make sure the needle is in the highest position. Raise the presser foot lever to release the current foot. Align the bar of the new presser foot under the holder and lower the presser foot lever to snap it into place. Ensure it is securely attached before starting to sew.
Ensure the feed dogs are raised and not disengaged. Check that the presser foot pressure is appropriate for the fabric type. Make sure the fabric is correctly aligned and not too thick for the presser foot being used. Clean the feed dogs to remove any lint or debris that might be affecting their operation.
Turn off the machine and raise the needle to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert the new needle with the flat side facing the back and push it up into the clamp as far as it will go. Tighten the needle clamp screw to secure the needle in place.
Unplug the machine and open the necessary panels to access the interior. Use a small brush to remove lint and dust from the bobbin area and feed dogs. Apply sewing machine oil to the designated oiling points as specified in the manual. Avoid over-oiling as this can attract more lint.
Ensure the machine is threaded correctly and the bobbin is inserted properly. Check that the upper and bobbin thread tensions are balanced. Make sure the needle is suitable for the fabric and thread type. Start sewing with the threads held gently in place to avoid tangling at the beginning of a seam.
