To light a fire, start by placing kindling wood and firelighters on the grate. Open the air controls fully and light the firelighters. Once the kindling is burning well, add larger logs. Gradually adjust the air controls as needed.
Check the chimney for blockages, ensure the room has adequate ventilation, and verify that the air controls are open. If the problem persists, consider consulting a professional chimney sweep.
It's recommended to clear the ash regularly, ideally before each use, to ensure optimal air flow and performance. Always wait until the stove is cool before cleaning.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the glass, checking and replacing door seals if necessary, inspecting the firebricks, and having the chimney swept at least once a year.
Use a damp cloth or sponge with a bit of stove glass cleaner. Avoid abrasive materials that might scratch the glass. Regular cleaning will help prevent soot build-up.
Hardwoods such as oak, ash, or beech are ideal as they burn longer and produce more heat. Ensure the wood is well-seasoned to reduce moisture content and enhance burning efficiency.
The stove is primarily designed for burning wood. If you wish to burn coal, ensure you use smokeless varieties and follow the manufacturer's guidelines to avoid damaging the stove.
Inspect the door seal for wear and replace it if necessary. Check for any obstructions and ensure the hinges are properly aligned. Tighten any loose screws to secure the door.
Use well-seasoned wood, maintain the stove regularly, and operate the air controls to optimize combustion. Insulating the room can also help retain heat.
Ensure the stove is installed correctly, keep flammable materials away from the stove, use a fireguard if necessary, and install a carbon monoxide detector in the room.
