To thread the Brother LX3850, start by raising the needle to its highest position and lifting the presser foot. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin. Follow the threading diagram on the machine, guiding the thread through the upper thread guide, down the right channel, up through the take-up lever, and finally through the needle from front to back.
Ensure that the feed dogs are raised and not covered. Also, check that the presser foot is lowered and that the stitch length is set appropriately. Clean any lint or debris from the feed dogs area to ensure smooth operation.
Skipped stitches can be caused by a dull or bent needle. Replace the needle with a new one, ensuring it is the correct type for your fabric. Re-thread the machine completely, both the upper thread and bobbin, to ensure there are no tangles or misalignments.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the lint and dust from the bobbin area and feed dogs. Oil the machine as per the user manual instructions, typically around the bobbin case area. Always unplug the machine before any maintenance.
To change the needle, turn off the machine and raise the needle to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back. Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.
A loud noise may indicate that the machine needs cleaning or oiling. Check for any thread caught in the bobbin area. Ensure the needle is not bent or incorrectly installed. Regular maintenance can prevent noise issues.
Adjust the tension by turning the tension dial. Higher numbers increase tension, while lower numbers decrease it. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to ensure balanced stitches. Adjust both upper and lower tension settings if necessary.
Ensure that the thread is correctly threaded through the machine and that the tension is not too tight. Check the needle for any damage and replace if necessary. Use a high-quality thread suitable for your fabric type.
Select the buttonhole stitch on your machine. Attach the buttonhole foot and place the fabric under it. Lower the presser foot and sew the buttonhole in one continuous motion. Follow the buttonhole instructions in the user manual for best results.
Ensure the bobbin is placed correctly on the bobbin winder spindle. Check that the thread is threaded correctly through the bobbin winding guide. If the bobbin is not winding evenly, make sure the bobbin winder stopper is properly adjusted.
