To thread the Brother BM3730, start by raising the presser foot and turning the handwheel to raise the needle. Place the spool on the spool pin, guide the thread through the top thread guide, down the right channel, around the tension disc, back up the left channel, through the take-up lever, and finally down to the needle. Ensure the thread is securely placed in each guide.
If the machine is not stitching properly, check the needle to ensure it is not bent or dull and replace if necessary. Re-thread both the top thread and bobbin, making sure the tension is correctly set. Also, confirm that the fabric is suitable for the needle and thread being used.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. Turn the dial to a higher number for tighter tension or to a lower number for looser tension. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to ensure the stitches are even.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin case, feed dogs, and surrounding areas to remove lint and fabric debris. Oil the machine according to the manual's instructions, usually around the bobbin case, to keep it running smoothly. Check and replace needles regularly.
To change the needle, first turn off the machine and raise the needle to its highest position using the handwheel. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert the new needle with the flat side facing the back, push it up as far as it can go, and tighten the needle clamp screw securely.
Thread bunching, or "birdnesting," can occur if the machine is not threaded correctly or if the tension is too loose. Re-thread the machine, ensuring the thread is correctly placed in the tension discs, and adjust the tension dial as necessary.
To sew buttonholes, attach the buttonhole foot, select the buttonhole stitch on your machine, and position the fabric under the foot. Lower the buttonhole lever, and then start the machine. Follow the instruction manual for specific adjustments and measurements.
The Brother BM3730 uses class 15 transparent plastic bobbins. Make sure to use the correct type to ensure proper operation and avoid damage to the machine.
Skipped stitches can be resolved by ensuring the needle is the correct size and type for the fabric. Re-thread the machine, check needle placement, and ensure the needle is not bent or dull. Adjust the tension if needed.
To use the reverse stitch function, press and hold the reverse lever while sewing. This will secure the stitches at the beginning and end of a seam. Release the lever to continue sewing forward.
