To perform a basic oil change, warm up the engine slightly, place the bike on the center stand, remove the oil drain plug and let the oil drain completely. Replace the oil filter, reinstall the drain plug, and fill with the recommended oil type and quantity.
The recommended tire pressures for solo riding are 36 psi for the front tire and 42 psi for the rear tire. Adjust these values if carrying additional load or riding with a passenger.
To reset the service reminder, you typically need a diagnostic tool like the GS-911 or visit a BMW dealer. These tools can interface with the bike's computer to reset the service interval.
If the engine won't start, check the battery charge, ensure the kill switch is in the 'run' position, verify fuel level, and inspect the fuses. If these are fine, further diagnosis by a professional may be needed.
For off-road riding, adjust the electronic suspension settings to 'Enduro' mode if equipped, or manually adjust the preload and damping settings according to the owner's manual for optimal performance.
The air filter should be inspected every 6,000 miles and replaced every 12,000 miles, or more frequently if riding in dusty conditions.
To improve fuel efficiency, maintain proper tire pressure, use high-quality fuel, keep up with regular maintenance, and ride smoothly without aggressive acceleration or braking.
Signs include a decrease in braking performance, a squealing noise during braking, or if the pad thickness is less than 2mm. Regularly inspect brake pads for wear.
To adjust the headlight beam, locate the adjustment screws on the headlight assembly. Turn them clockwise or counterclockwise to raise or lower the beam height as needed.
If the ABS warning light stays on, check the ABS sensors for dirt or damage, inspect the ABS fuse, and ensure the battery voltage is adequate. If unresolved, consult a BMW service center.
