To perform an oil change, first warm up the engine, then turn it off and place the bike on a stable stand. Remove the oil drain plug and let the old oil drain completely. Replace the drain plug and remove the oil filter. Install a new filter and fill the engine with the recommended oil type and quantity. Check for leaks and dispose of the old oil responsibly.
The recommended tire pressure for the BMW F 650 GS 2007 is 29 psi (2.0 bar) for the front tire and 33 psi (2.3 bar) for the rear tire. Always check the tire pressure when the tires are cold.
If your BMW F 650 GS 2007 is having starting issues, first check the battery to ensure it is fully charged. Inspect the spark plugs for wear or fouling, and replace them if necessary. Ensure the fuel system is delivering fuel to the engine and check the starter motor and associated wiring for any faults.
Regular maintenance should include checking and changing the oil and filter every 6,000 miles, inspecting the air filter, checking brake pads and fluid, and inspecting the drive chain for tension and lubrication. Also, regularly check tire pressure and coolant levels.
To adjust the chain tension, place the motorcycle on a stand and loosen the rear axle nut. Adjust the chain tension using the adjusters on either side of the swingarm to achieve the correct slack, typically around 20-30mm. Tighten the axle nut and recheck the tension.
Use a high-quality ethylene glycol-based coolant mixed with distilled water in a 50:50 ratio. Make sure it is compatible with aluminum engines and offers protection against corrosion and freezing.
To improve fuel efficiency, maintain your motorcycle with regular servicing, keep tires properly inflated, ride smoothly avoiding rapid acceleration and deceleration, and reduce excess weight. Ensure the air filter is clean and replace it if necessary.
If the brakes feel spongy, check the brake fluid level and top it up if necessary. Inspect for air in the brake lines and bleed the brakes if required. Check the brake pads for wear and replace them if they are worn out.
Locate the fuse box, usually under the seat or near the battery. Identify the blown fuse and remove it using a fuse puller or pliers. Replace it with a new fuse of the same amperage. Make sure to check for any underlying issues that may have caused the fuse to blow.
To winterize, clean the motorcycle thoroughly and apply a coat of wax. Fill the fuel tank and add a fuel stabilizer. Change the oil and filter, and lubricate all moving parts. Disconnect the battery and store it in a warm place, and cover the motorcycle with a breathable cover.
