To check the oil level, ensure the bike is on level ground and the engine is warm. Turn off the engine, wait a few minutes, and check the oil level through the sight glass on the side of the engine. The level should be between the minimum and maximum marks.
Use a high-quality ethylene glycol-based antifreeze with corrosion inhibitors specifically for aluminum engines. BMW recommends using their branded coolant or an equivalent that meets the same specifications.
First, check the battery condition and connections. Ensure the kill switch is in the run position and the bike is in neutral. Inspect the starter relay and fuses. If the problem persists, it may require professional diagnostics.
The recommended tire pressure is typically 36 psi for the front tire and 42 psi for the rear tire. Always check the owner's manual or the tire placard on the motorcycle for the most accurate information.
The air filter should be checked every 6,000 miles and replaced every 12,000 miles, or more frequently if you ride in dusty conditions.
To adjust the chain tension, place the bike on its center stand. Loosen the rear axle nut and adjust the chain tension using the adjusters on either side of the swingarm. Ensure there is about 1 inch of slack at the midpoint of the chain. Tighten the axle nut once the adjustment is correct.
Common causes of overheating include low coolant levels, a faulty thermostat, a clogged radiator, or a malfunctioning cooling fan. Inspect these components and ensure proper maintenance to prevent overheating.
To reset the service light, you typically need a diagnostic tool compatible with BMW motorcycles, such as the GS-911, to access the bike's ECU and reset the service interval.
The recommended battery type is a maintenance-free, 12V 19Ah AGM battery. Ensure the battery meets or exceeds the original equipment specifications for optimal performance.
Before storing, clean the bike thoroughly, change the oil, and fill the gas tank with fuel stabilizer. Disconnect and remove the battery, and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the bike with a breathable cover and store it in a dry, sheltered location.
