To perform an oil change, warm up the engine, place the bike on a stand, remove the oil drain plug and let the old oil drain completely. Replace the oil filter, reinstall the drain plug, and refill with the recommended engine oil. Ensure proper disposal of the old oil.
The recommended tire pressure is 29 psi for the front tire and 32 psi for the rear tire. Always check the tire pressure when the tires are cold for accurate readings.
If the bike won't start, check the battery charge and connections, inspect the fuses, and ensure the fuel is fresh. Verify the kill switch is set to run and the kickstand is up if the bike is in gear.
Use a high-quality ethylene glycol-based coolant that is suitable for aluminum engines. It should be mixed with distilled water at a 50/50 ratio unless otherwise specified.
The air filter should be inspected every 6,000 miles and replaced every 12,000 miles, or more frequently if you ride in dusty conditions.
To adjust the chain tension, place the motorcycle on a stand, loosen the rear axle nut, and adjust the chain tensioners evenly on both sides until the chain has about 1 inch of slack. Tighten the axle nut securely.
To reset the service light, you generally need to connect the bike to a diagnostic tool that can communicate with the BMW's onboard computer. This is typically done at a BMW service center.
Regular maintenance includes oil and filter changes, checking and adjusting valve clearances, inspecting brakes and brake fluid, checking tire pressure and tread, inspecting and lubing the chain, and verifying all lights and controls are functioning.
To replace the brake pads, remove the caliper from the brake disc, extract the old pads, compress the caliper pistons, and insert new pads. Reinstall the caliper and ensure all bolts are securely tightened. Test the brakes before riding.
If the ABS warning light stays on, it indicates a possible malfunction in the ABS system. Check the ABS sensor and wiring for any visible damage. If the issue persists, have the system inspected by a professional technician.
