To check the oil level, ensure the bike is on a level surface and the engine is warm. Turn off the engine and wait for a few minutes. Use the dipstick located on the right side of the engine. Remove it, wipe it clean, insert it without screwing it in, and then remove it again to check the level.
For the BMW F 800 GS 2011, it is recommended to use SAE 15W-50 synthetic motor oil that meets the API SL or higher specifications.
The oil should be changed every 6,000 miles (10,000 kilometers) or at least once a year, whichever comes first. This helps maintain engine performance and longevity.
The recommended tire pressure is 36 psi (2.5 bar) for the front tire and 42 psi (2.9 bar) for the rear tire. Always check the tire pressure when the tires are cold.
To adjust the suspension, locate the preload adjuster on the rear shock and adjust it using the included tool or an appropriate wrench. The front suspension can be adjusted by modifying the fork preload and damping settings as per your riding preference.
First, check the battery connections and charge. Ensure the kill switch is set to 'Run'. Verify fuel levels and inspect the fuses. If the problem persists, it might require professional diagnostics.
Clean and lubricate the chain every 500 miles (800 kilometers) or after riding in wet conditions. Use a suitable chain cleaner and lubricant, and check the tension to ensure it is within the recommended specifications.
For winter storage, clean the motorcycle thoroughly, change the oil, fill the fuel tank, and add a fuel stabilizer. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Inflate the tires to the recommended pressure and cover the bike to protect it from dust and moisture.
To reset the service light, you will typically need a BMW diagnostic tool or a visit to a dealer. Some third-party diagnostic tools can also perform this reset.
Common issues include stator failure, fuel pump issues, and chain wear. Regular maintenance, such as checking electrical connections, replacing the stator with an upgraded version, and monitoring fuel pump performance, can help mitigate these problems.
