To adjust the chain tension, place the bike on a stand, loosen the axle nut, and adjust the chain tensioner bolts on both sides of the swingarm evenly until the chain has about 1.2 inches of slack. Tighten the axle nut to secure the wheel.
Use a high-quality 2-stroke engine oil. Yamaha recommends using Yamalube 2-R or a similar high-grade 2-stroke oil for optimal performance.
It's recommended to clean the air filter after every 3 to 5 rides, or more frequently if you are riding in dusty conditions. Regular cleaning ensures optimal engine performance and longevity.
The recommended tire pressure for the YZ85P1 is approximately 12-15 psi for both the front and rear tires, depending on terrain and rider preference.
Check the spark plug for fouling or wear, ensure the fuel is fresh, inspect the carburetor for clogs, and verify the kill switch is functioning properly. If issues persist, consult a professional mechanic.
After each ride, clean the bike thoroughly, check and tighten any loose bolts, lubricate the chain, inspect tires for wear and proper inflation, and ensure the brakes are functioning well.
To change the spark plug, remove the spark plug cap, use a spark plug socket to unscrew the old plug, and install a new one, ensuring it's properly gapped. Screw it in by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten with the socket.
Use a high-quality ethylene glycol-based coolant mixed with distilled water at a 1:1 ratio. This ensures efficient cooling and prevents corrosion in the cooling system.
Adjust the fork and shock settings to suit your weight and riding style. Refer to the owner's manual for recommended settings or consult a professional for personalized tuning.
Check the coolant level and ensure the radiator is clean and free of obstructions. Inspect the water pump and thermostat for proper operation, and ensure the mixture is not too lean, which can cause overheating.
